I have never considered myself a fan of lube.
In our earliest days, we used baby oil, if we used anything, and I found nothing about it to be pleasant, not even the lubricating properties, but I figured if it was gentle enough for babies, then I could count on it not to irritate my most delicate skin.
During those days, we bought a long succession of poorly designed, probably toxic sex toys at a dirty, run-down place called, creatively enough, ‘The Adult Toy Store.’
A friend of ours who worked there convinced us to buy a bottle of Blueberry flavored Wet, which to me, felt sticky and gross, tasted nothing like blueberries, and was generally the worst.
It wasn’t until years later that we discovered Pink, a silicone-based lube that I liked better (though could rarely use because I was often using silicone toys) and Silk, a water-based lube that I found acceptable, at best, but was compatible with more of my toys.
Eventually, I went through a phase of experimenting with essential oils for pseudo-medical purposes and found that we liked Sweet Almond Oil even better, and it seemed to work okay with all of our various implements of penetration. Still though, it was unoffensive at best.
All of those products are liquid and leave me feeling oily and uncomfortable in a way that our own natural bodily fluids never have. Not to mention, those are just the winners. I suspect this is true for many women, but my natural balance is really easy to set out of whack, and putting the wrong product into my vagina can lead to yeast infections or other long lasting discomfort really easily. Add to that the fact that I can’t use over the counter products for yeast infections, and it means that every bad lube decision means a potential trip to the doctor to get Diflucan tablets, which has led me to be pretty cautious with lubes.
Still, when I heard Kayla Lords and John Brownstone (of the amazing Loving BDSM podcast) enthusiastically singing the praises of ‘The Butters’ last year, I was curious. I liked that it was in a tub, more like a cream than a liquid, and I liked that they both agreed that it felt less like an oily ‘other’ substance and more natural.
I told Daddy when I ordered it, “It seems too good to be true, and I’m skeptical, but let’s try it.” I ordered a small tub, and we only had to use it one time to be completely sold. The almond oil left the bedside shelf, and we ordered several jars of The Butters in bulk.
It’s creamy and decadent and leaves me feeling soft and clean. I use it when I wear my butt plug, I use it to give hand jobs, and it’s the first lube I have ever wanted used when Daddy uses his hands on me. We love it when it’s Saturday morning and we slip into the bedroom for a quick fuck, we love it for tantric all-night-long sessions, and it is the hands-down best product for anal sex that we’ve ever found.
It tastes pretty neutral, which is a plus for me – ever since the Blueberry Wet, I’m not really looking for flavor in my lube, and there’s nothing in it that I wouldn’t want in my mouth or vagina, which I can’t say for sure about other silicone or even water-based lubes.
Finally, I love that I love the company. The Butters got its start at a farm market in Ypsilanti, Michigan. It was developed by Jerome Stuart Nichols, a real person who wanted the product for his own use, and to this day, despite the fact that I’m hearing more and more buzz about the product, it is still made, marketed and sold by Jerome, his partner Bubby and their moral support guinea pig, Ms. Truffles.
At our day job, Daddy and I work to help small businesses, and anytime I can find a great product being made by actual people, it’s my favorite.
As long as we can get our hands on it, we’re not likely to ever use another lube. It’s that good. Also, I use an amazing tea tree vanilla spray that Jerome makes that has pretty much resolved yeast infections for me permanently.
Jerome makes a lot of products, and even a couple of different varieties of The Butters lube, and I’ve ordered a handful of products and liked everything I’ve ordered. The Original Lube is definitely my favorite, though – it’s hard to improve on perfection!
I haven’t asked Jerome for an affiliate link yet, as I’m still working to get the blog up and running, but I plan to, and will post it here when I have it, and can hopefully offer you a little discount for clicking through. For now, though, I’ll just post the link so you can go and check it out for yourself!
